How it works

From market to MQL5 in four steps.

The research happens in BreakoutOS. The finished strategy lands in MetaTrader 5 as an Expert Advisor you can compile, run in the Strategy Tester and attach to a chart.

01Breakout Radar
Breakout Radar scoring the E-mini NASDAQ and gold sessions

Pick a market

Breakout Radar scores each session of a market for breakout direction and how long breakouts typically last, so you start where the structure's there.

02Breakout Trading PRO
Breakout Trading PRO building and ranking breakout strategiesHypothetical backtest

Build the strategy

Breakout Trading PRO builds and tests breakout strategies for that market, point-and-click, using the Mr Breakouts Formula. Pick the one you want to take further.

03MQL5 export
BreakoutOS MQL5 export with the Copy button

Copy the MQL5

The export writes the strategy as an MQL5 Expert Advisor. The header lists the session times it was tested on, which matters on MetaTrader since server time varies from broker to broker.

Compile in MetaEditor

Paste it into a new Expert Advisor in MetaEditor and compile. It's ready for the Strategy Tester or a chart, like any EA you'd written yourself.

The proof

What you tested is what you trade.

One strategy, backtested in BreakoutOS, then exported and backtested again in MetaTrader 5's Strategy Tester. The MQL5 export reproduces the BreakoutOS results closely, so the EA on your chart is the strategy you researched.

403 of the 409 trades match exactly. Five of the other six fall on holiday early closes, which this test's MetaTrader 5 session schedule didn't include, so those exits waited for the next open. The sixth is a stop order that filled at a reopen. Hypothetical backtest results on both sides, not live trading. See the Hypothetical Performance Disclosure at the foot of this page.

Same rules

The entry, the exit and the filters you tested in BreakoutOS, written out as an MQL5 Expert Advisor.

Same session times

The code header spells out the session times the strategy uses, so you can line them up with your broker's server time.

Differences you can trace

Small gaps can still come from your broker's price data, its server time or the tester's modelling mode. There's a guide inside BreakoutOS for tracking them down.

Common questions

MetaTrader 5 questions.

No. BreakoutOS runs in your browser, and there's nothing to add to MetaTrader. When a strategy's ready, you copy the MQL5, paste it into a new Expert Advisor in MetaEditor and compile it.
No. The export is MQL5, for MetaTrader 5. MetaTrader 4 uses MQL4, which is a different language, so the code won't compile there.
Yes. Every strategy you build in Breakout Trading PRO exports as an MQL5 Expert Advisor. Once it's compiled, it runs in MetaTrader 5 like any other EA: in the Strategy Tester, on a demo account, or on a chart with algo trading switched on.
An EA runs on whatever account your MetaTrader 5 terminal is logged into, so it can run on a prop-firm account that uses MetaTrader 5. Each firm sets its own rules on Expert Advisors, though, and some restrict or ban them on evaluation or funded accounts. Check your firm's rules before you run one.
No. You build strategies point-and-click in BreakoutOS, and the export writes the MQL5 for you. You copy it, paste it into MetaEditor and compile. That's the only part that happens in MetaTrader.
Very closely. BreakoutOS has a built-in parity checker, and we've tested thousands of strategies on each platform: every one matched at least 95%, and most match 98-99%. Small differences come from holidays, shortened sessions and platform-specific edge cases, and every strategy builder runs into them. They can also come from your broker's price data, its server time or the Strategy Tester's modelling mode. The header of every export lists the settings to match, and there's a guide inside BreakoutOS for fixing discrepancies. Results on both sides are hypothetical backtests, not live trading.
Breakout strategies are built around session times, like the open of the main session. MetaTrader brokers each set their own server time, so the same bar can carry a different time stamp from one broker to the next. The export header lists the session times the strategy was tested on, so you can check them against your broker's server time before you run it.
Any market you've got price data for. BreakoutOS tests on data you upload as ASCII or CSV. MetaTrader traders often start with forex pairs like EUR/USD, gold, or index CFDs on the Nasdaq-100 and S&P 500.
BreakoutOS comes with a few sample datasets for testing, including crypto and 60-minute data for NQ, ES, AAPL and EUR/USD. They're for trying things out. For strategies you plan to trade, use the data you'll trade on, from your broker. Prices and session times can differ between brokers, so testing on the same data is what makes BreakoutOS and MetaTrader 5 line up.
Build is for building new breakout strategies. It has Breakout Radar, Market Mapper, Breakout Explorer and Breakout Trading PRO, with MQL5 export on every strategy. Scale is for traders who already have EAs running. It adds the Backtest Auditor, Indicator Matcher, MQ Portfolio Builder and Strategy Health Monitor, and includes every Build tool.
Build and Scale are memberships. You'll find the current prices and plans on the BreakoutOS Build and BreakoutOS Scale pages. MetaTrader 5 itself is free to download from MetaQuotes or your broker.
