Head to head

Compare two platforms in detail.

Tested on all six

One strategy, six platforms.

We built one breakout strategy in BreakoutOS, exported it to every platform, and backtested it on each. Every platform reproduced the BreakoutOS results closely: 409 or 410 trades on all six.

What BreakoutOS adds to any platform.

Every platform here tests and runs the strategy you give it. BreakoutOS does the jobs around that, and the strategy you build moves with you if you ever switch.

Before you build

Breakout Radar and Market Mapper show which markets and sessions break out cleanly, and Breakout Trading PRO builds and tests thousands of breakout strategies in minutes, then exports the one you pick to your platform.

After the backtest

The Backtest Auditor checks whether a result beats a thousand strategies with the same DNA, MQ Portfolio Builder combines strategies into one portfolio, and the Strategy Health Monitor tells you when a live strategy drifts outside its normal range.

Common questions

Algorithmic trading platform questions.

It depends on what you trade. For futures, NinjaTrader is the most widely supported, especially for prop firm accounts. TradeStation suits trading stocks and options alongside futures, and MetaTrader 5 is the usual choice for forex and CFDs. MultiCharts suits traders who want their own broker and data feed, AmiBroker suits fast testing across many symbols, and Python gives you full control if you code.
Most futures prop firms support NinjaTrader, usually through a Rithmic, Tradovate or CQG connection, and some let you connect MultiCharts. Forex and CFD prop firms mostly use MetaTrader 5. Check your firm's platform list before you pay for an evaluation.
EasyLanguage (TradeStation) and PowerLanguage (MultiCharts) were written for traders and read closest to plain English. NinjaScript (C#), MQL5 (C++-style) and Python are full programming languages with more power and a steeper start. BreakoutOS writes all of them for you.
MetaTrader 5 has an official Mac version, and Python runs anywhere. TradeStation's TITAN X runs on Mac, though strategy backtesting is still in TradeStation 10. NinjaTrader's web and mobile apps work on a Mac. NinjaTrader Desktop, MultiCharts and AmiBroker are Windows programs, so Mac users run them in a Windows virtual machine.
Usually only by rewriting it, because each platform has its own language. The exception is EasyLanguage, which mostly runs in MultiCharts. BreakoutOS exports every strategy to all six platforms, and in our test one NQ breakout strategy matched closely on every one (hypothetical backtests).
MetaTrader 5 and Python are free, and NinjaTrader is free for charting, backtesting and simulated trading. TradeStation's desktop platform is free with an account, and MultiCharts has a free plan for simulation. AmiBroker is a one-time license. You still pay your broker's commissions or spreads to trade live.
